Old Capitals
Destination “Old Capitals” for wine and culinary tourism is a part of the North Bulgarian Viticultural Region, Dunabian Plain.
This is a historical
region home to Roman, and early Byzantine ruins, Pliska - the capital of the
First Bugarian Empire, and Tarnovo Pliska - the capital of the Second Bugarian Empire.
Here the traditions of viticulture and winemaking are highly respected and some of the best winemakers in the country produce in this region. The area around Shumen, Preslav, Targovishte and Madara is known for producing high-quality white wines. The noble Pinot Noir, which often accompanies white varieties in the vineyards because it prefers the colder regions, also feels good here.
